Why do Americans get a free ride home from Lebanon? If an American visited Lebanon on vacation, it is their own fault. The US State Department website recommends countries for Americans to avoid, surely Lebanon has been one for some time. Especially considering its close proximity to Syria and Iran. Vacationing in Lebanon should be treated similar to a “stupid motorist law.” If I drive around a road block and get stuck in a wash, it’s my own stupid fault. I pay. Same thing for those who visit Lebanon, they are avoiding the State Department road block warning against visiting Lebanon.
For those who are in Lebanon on business, their employer should foot the bill. Those on government business are the ONLY persons that should be covered by the govt.
The govt seems to be wasting too much money, ex: Katrina. If my house burned down, I wouldn’t receive aid.
We need to stop complaining about how our govt is too slow and expects us to pay for our own stupid decisions. Am I alone?

What if all Americans were in that danger at once? Would that be a big enough percentage to convince you that the gov’t should help out?

Self-reliance = Something that Americans need to reclaim in their lives. You can’t expect government to do everything for you.
No one held a gun for them to be over there.

It’s the role of the government to care for it’s citizens. If they are too slow to respond, than they are not fullfilling their role. It’s their obligation to take the citizens of their country out of hazardous areas.
It’s not their fault that the countries are deciding to be big babies over there. Some are college students going to the university there for specialized classes. Others are there for other reasons. Does it matter?
If your house burns down, you should have insurance. People can’t have insurance if they’re in a foreign country at a time that war breaks out.
Where is your compassion for your fellow Americans over there? Does it matter why they’re there? Should we just abandon them if they can’t pay?

Don’t recall whether it was ABC, CBS, or NBC, but just last night the report was they will be getting bills. We are rescuing them now because that is what the most powerful country in the world is supposed to do when its people are in danger. We are billing them later because it is only fair that they pay for the special services.
As for Katrina, think of it this way…you work all your life to get what you’ve got. Now the government tells you tou have to leave it all behind because the weather is too dangerous. You know if you leave you will lose everything. If you stay you might be able to save some of it, or you might die. What choice do you make?
Sure, some people lie and take advantage. Some people fake injuries after car wrecks, and some cheat on tests. There are always a few with criminal intent, but most people are just looking for a little help to get back on their feet.
My family got help from FEMA after Hurricane Agnes flooded our area in 1972, and believe me, the government didn’t “waste too much money” on us. I slept in a crib at the foot of my parents bed until I was four years old. I still think that’s why I never got the baby brother I used to beg my them for.
You should be grateful of your government’s swift response to rescue your countrymen who are in trouble over there.Other countries don’t give a damn#t about their compatriots who are trapped there in Lebanon.even after repeated appeal for them to do so! Stop whining!
Many people feel that the government owes them. These are adults that made a conscience desision to go to a hot spot , knowing full and well the tensions between Israel and the muslim nations that surround them. Everyone with half a brain knows the area is a power keg, yet they pretend like they were clueless.
