I am planning to go to visit family in Lebanon over the coming few days and am slightly concerned with the trouble in the north (at the palestinian camp), ever present threat of trouble in the south with Israel, and ongoing car bombs and assasinations in Beirut itself that my movement may be restricted and my safety may be jeopardised. My family say it should be fine but to them im sure all of this is relatively normal and low key!! I understand that much of the infrastructure of the south has not been re-built and travel is still restricted becuase of this. What kind of holiday can i expect to have – are pople still going out and able to have fun – and is it safe enough for me to go?

Also, I feel bad for those silly Jews because they want to have a country, even though everyone hates them. (I don’t think Israel should have ever been made a country–they don’t need a country; they could just as easily live in America.) But, Israel is a country, so why can’t everyone just get over it? Why do people in the Middle East not just worry about buying a new sofa instead of fighting? What the hel is wrong with them? Do they need some diversity training or what? I have absolutely no idea what is going on with this situation. I made it a point to stay away from news while I was on vacation. I went to a news site and saw “Hezbollah declares open war” and that Israel went in and started bombing Lebanon like crazy because of some kidnapping.

If at all possible can you give me a non partisan, non political answer and just explain the facts and let me decide on merits of the 2 sides?

It obviously happened when the US invaded Iraq. Lebanon was actually peaceful … many foreigners were vacationing there (includeing Americans) when Israel Invaded.

Reuters and one of their reporters and photographers has been called on the carpet, (actually, the reporter and photographer have now been fired) for altering photographs of Lebanon for sympathy. One photo taken of a woman and her bombed house in July, another photo of the SAME WOMAN, wearing the SAME CLOTHES at a different bombed location.
